About us

Riverbelt is a “mine to market’ company.

Drawing inspiration from Baringo Ruby mines, Kenya in 2005 was a significant starting point for Riverbelt.

With over 18 years of experience in the industry, we bring deep rooted understanding of the market dynamics, supply chain, and customer preferences.

At Riverbelt, we responsibly mine and supply untreated gemstones from artisan miners from Africa. Our vision is to bring ethically sourced naturally processed gemstones from mines to the end user. Our business model is aligned with artisan miners, cutters, and jewelry designers. Using cutting-edge technology our mission is to bring transparency in the supply chain.

Our objectives:

  • Source sustainably without exploiting Earth’s resources
  • Be ethical and compensate generously to the artisan miners
  • Process (cut and polish) naturally without added treatment
  • Bring the highest value to the end user with transparency and technology

About the Founder

A Passionate Gem Connoisseur

Meet Jay Jobanputra, an avid explorer and gem maestro who traveled the length and breadth of Africa to discover the hidden wonders of the earth.

His journey began in Nairobi, Kenya from the Baringo Ruby mine which established a strong foundation in his understanding of Ruby. He collaborated with distinguished individuals such as Mr. Patni and Mr. B.D. Rao in Kamakanga mines of Zambia.

This enriched his knowledge and understanding of sustainable mining practices and the gem industry.

During one of his many detours, he discovered Changara mines in Mozambique.

This led him to the idea of bringing untreated, natural Rubies of the earth directly to consumers.

With a passion for excellence and a commitment to bringing authentic products into the industry, Jay has been associated with the Swiss Gemological Institute SSEF and GIA in multiple projects and initiatives.
